Purchased at a book signing a bit ago, I finally found time to read the paperback of "Cuckoo Clock Caper" and loved it! There's plenty going on as the author flawlessly sneaks in back story on most of the characters so the reader isn't left wondering. No need to start with the first book—each book in this this series is truly a stand-alone, leaving you wanting more! No spoilers from me. Just know that you'll want to make sure you have a few of Joyce Oroz's books handy to keep the happy feeling flowing.I loved the quirky character of Emmet—I'd love him as a neighbor—and there were plenty of unexpected twists and turns. Really kept me guessing. It is amazing that Jo manages to keep her wits about her with all that's going on.

Josephine's unquenchable thirst for the truth leads her on another rollicking trail of adventures, or should I say "misadventures." When one of her neighbor's house explodes and goes up in flames, Josephine, true to her nature, becomes a mole digging beneath the surface to uncover what she suspects are unscrupulous, murderous acts. Her sleuthing takes her far afield from her usual Aromas and Moss Landing, California, terrain into the middle of a desolate Arizona desert to attend a Cuckoo Clock Convention and all the dangers that abound thereof. Josephine has that uncanny ability to bring closure to a seemingly innocent but murderous incident. We can only hope that someday, she can do the same for her love life with that charming, handsome man in her life. A delightful read with lots of adventure; devoid of unneccesary x-rated scenes and vulgar language.
I was blown away by this novel. It is hard to believe that this is the second book this author has written. It has obviously been well polished and well edited. The empathetic portrayal of both the town and the characters won me over. The various descriptions of the characters are unique and well rounded not the same old tall/short, brown/blond type of narrative you see in lots of books.
Once I started this book I had a hard time putting it down. It had many twists and turns and every time one thought they knew who the murderer could be, it wasn't. It was interesting and fun to read and I would recommend this book to anyone who would enjoys mysteries. Everything about this story is well plotted from the great characters to the murder. I'm sure Joyce Oroz left enough clues for the reader to solve the mystery, but this seasoned mystery reader never managed to piece it together. I like when I'm kept guessing, and I was definitely kept guessing right till the end.
Met the author in Aromas and was intrigued. Setting in an area which I know was enjoyable. I will be reading more from this author.

I began this story finding it very engrossing and quite fun; however, I grew a bit bored of it before the end, although certainly not enough so to stop reading it, as I do if I'm really not happy with a novel. I can't quite put my finger on what caused me to lose interest; perhaps it was that the story seemed to "wander" a bit, with too many characters and plot lines woven together too loosely, and some of the situations just a touch preposterous. Although the characters might develop as the series continues, I found all of them except the narrator to be just a bit two-dimensional. Still, I wouldn't be averse to reading more of the series, as I think it could progress quite nicely.
